About Calories Burned

What is a MET?

A MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) measures an activity's energy cost relative to resting. Walking is about 3.5 METs, running about 10. Calories burned ≈ MET × 3.5 × weight(kg) ÷ 200 × minutes.

How to use it

Pick your activity, enter your weight (metric or imperial) and the duration, and the tool estimates total calories burned and the per-hour rate.

An estimate

Actual calorie burn depends on fitness, intensity, terrain and individual metabolism, so treat the figure as a useful approximation.

Frequently asked questions

How are calories burned calculated?
Using the standard MET formula: MET × 3.5 × weight in kg ÷ 200 × minutes.
Why does weight affect calories burned?
Heavier bodies use more energy to perform the same activity.
Is the estimate exact?
No — it's a solid approximation; trackers with heart-rate data can be more personalized.
