How to use the Morse

About Morse

What is Morse code?

Morse code encodes characters as sequences of dots (.) and dashes (-). Developed for the telegraph in the 1800s, it's still used in aviation, amateur radio and emergencies because it can be sent by sound, light or tapping.

How to format it

In this tool, letters within a word are separated by a single space and words are separated by /. For example .... .. is "HI" and ... --- ... is the famous SOS.

Supported characters

All 26 letters, digits 0–9, and common punctuation (period, comma, question mark, slash and more) are supported in both directions.

How are words separated?
With a forward slash /. Letters inside a word are separated by single spaces.
Is Morse case-sensitive?
No. Morse code has no concept of upper- or lower-case; text is treated case-insensitively when encoding.
What is SOS in Morse?
... --- ... — three dots, three dashes, three dots. It's an internationally recognised distress signal.
