Passphrase is a free, private online tool that lets you generate memorable Diceware-style word passphrases that are strong yet easy to remember. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded to a server.

A passphrase is a password made of several random words rather than a jumble of characters - for example 'harbor-velvet-puzzle-mango'. It can be both very secure and far easier to remember than a random string, which is why security experts increasingly recommend the approach for the few passwords you must memorise.
Strength comes from entropy - the number of possible combinations. Choosing several words at random from a large list creates an enormous number of possibilities: four or five random words give protection comparable to a long random string, while being dramatically easier for a human to recall. The key word is random - a memorable quote or song lyric is not secure.
This generator follows the spirit of Diceware, a well-known method where words are chosen at random from a curated list (traditionally by rolling dice). The crucial property is that each word is picked independently using secure randomness, so the result has no pattern an attacker can exploit, even though the words themselves are common and easy to read.
Both can be strong, but they suit different jobs. Random character strings (from the Password Generator) are ideal for passwords your password manager stores and types for you. Passphrases shine for the handful you must type from memory - your device login, your password-manager master password - where memorability really matters.
Choose how many words you want (four is a sensible minimum; five or six for high-value accounts) and a separator, then generate. Add a number or symbol if a site insists. Generation is entirely local to your browser, so the passphrase is never transmitted. Everything runs offline once loaded.
