A business days calculator counts the number of working days between two dates, excluding weekends and, optionally, public holidays. Because deadlines, payment terms and delivery estimates are usually measured in working days rather than calendar days, this is essential for accurate planning.
There is a big difference between calendar days and business days. A '10 business day' delivery window can span two weeks of the calendar once you remove Saturdays, Sundays and any holidays. This tool counts only Monday to Friday and subtracts recognised public holidays, so you get the figure that contracts and SLAs actually mean.
The calculator can exclude US federal holidays (with the standard Saturday/Sunday observation rules) or UK bank holidays (including the Easter-based dates, which it computes automatically), or you can count weekends-only and ignore holidays. Choosing the right calendar matters because a span crossing several holidays can shift a deadline by days.
Service-level agreements, invoice payment terms ('net 30 business days'), legal notice periods, shipping estimates and project schedules are all defined in working days. Miscounting them - by forgetting a bank holiday, say - leads to missed deadlines and disputes. An accurate count protects against those errors and sets correct expectations.
