Random Color is a free, private online tool that lets you generate random colors as HEX codes for design inspiration and palettes. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded to a server.
Privacy: this tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never sent to, received by, or stored on any server — there are no uploads and no tracking of what you enter.
Each color is a random 24-bit value shown as a HEX code you can paste straight into CSS or design tools.
Brainstorming palettes, placeholder colors, UI testing, and beating designer's block.
Drop any generated HEX into the Color Converter for RGB, HSL and CMYK values.
A random color generator produces unpredictable colors as HEX codes - one at a time or many at once. It is a fast way to break creative block, find unexpected combinations, generate placeholder colors, or seed a design with fresh ideas you would not have chosen yourself.
Each color is a random 24-bit value - a random number for red, green and blue - rendered as a six-digit HEX code ready to paste into CSS or any design tool. The generator uses the browser's secure random source, so the colors are genuinely unpredictable rather than cycling through a fixed list.
Designers often gravitate to the same familiar palette. Injecting random colors forces you out of habit and can spark combinations you would never have picked deliberately. It is a known brainstorming technique - start from a random color and build a palette around it, or generate several and keep the ones that resonate.
Random colors are handy for generating distinct colors for chart series, tags or user avatars; creating placeholder or test colors during development; producing varied backgrounds; and simply exploring. Generating a batch at once lets you scan many options quickly and pick the best.
Choose how many colors you want and generate. Each comes as a copyable HEX code; drop any of them into the Color Converter to get RGB, HSL and CMYK, or into the Shades tool to build a full palette around it. Everything runs in your browser.
