An age calculator works out exactly how old someone is - in years, months and days - from a birth date, and can calculate age as of any chosen date. It also shows totals (days, weeks, months lived) and a countdown to the next birthday. It removes the surprisingly fiddly calendar arithmetic of doing this by hand.
Subtracting years alone is misleading near a birthday, and months have different lengths, so how old exactly requires proper calendar maths. The calculator borrows days and months correctly - accounting for 28-to-31-day months and leap years - so the result is accurate to the day rather than a rough year count.
February 29 birthdays and spans crossing leap years are handled by the underlying date arithmetic, so the day count stays correct. Because a year is not exactly 365 days, total months and total weeks are computed from the real elapsed days rather than assumed averages, which keeps the milestone figures honest.
