Understanding Date Add in depth

What this calculator does

A date add/subtract calculator finds the date that falls a given amount of time before or after a starting date. Pick a date, choose how many days, weeks, months or years to add or subtract, and it returns the resulting date along with its day of the week. It removes the error-prone job of counting forward or backward across a calendar by hand.

Why calendar maths is harder than it looks

Adding 90 days is not just 'three months' - months have 28 to 31 days, and leap years add a day to February. Crossing year boundaries, month-end dates and February 29 all create edge cases that catch people out. The tool uses proper calendar arithmetic, so adding one month to 31 January or to a leap day behaves sensibly rather than producing an impossible date.

Days versus months versus years

The unit you choose changes the meaning. Adding 30 days always advances exactly 30 days; adding 1 month lands on the same day-of-month next month (where it exists), which may be 28, 30 or 31 days later. Knowing the difference matters for contracts and deadlines - 'within 30 days' and 'within one month' are not always the same date.

Common real-world uses

This is the everyday tool for deadlines and planning: when a 30-day return window closes, the due date 90 days after an invoice, a subscription renewal one year on, a project milestone six weeks out, or a notice period that ends a set number of days from today. The day-of-week output is handy for scheduling around weekends.

How to use it

Enter a start date (or leave it as today), type the amount, pick the unit, and choose add or subtract. The result updates instantly and shows which weekday it falls on. For counting the span between two known dates instead, use the Date Difference calculator. Everything runs locally in your browser.
