Quick answer

Frequency is a free, private online tool that lets you convert frequency between hertz, kilohertz, megahertz, gigahertz and RPM. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded to a server.

How to use the Frequency

  1. Enter the number you want to convert in the Value field.
  2. Pick the unit you're converting From and the unit you want To.
  3. Read the converted result, or use to swap the two units.
  4. Check the All units table to see your value expressed in every supported unit at once.

Privacy: this tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never sent to, received by, or stored on any server — there are no uploads and no tracking of what you enter.

About Frequency

Common frequency units

Hertz and its multiples (kHz, MHz, GHz) measure cycles per second — used for sound, radio and CPU clocks. RPM measures rotations per minute.

Key conversions

1 kHz = 1000 Hz, 1 MHz = 1,000,000 Hz, 1 GHz = 1 billion Hz. 1 Hz = 60 RPM.

Where it helps

Audio and radio engineering, CPU and bus speeds, and rotating machinery.

Frequently asked questions

How many Hz in a MHz?
One million (1,000,000) hertz.
How is RPM related to Hz?
1 Hz equals 60 RPM (one cycle per second is 60 per minute).
What is a GHz?
One billion hertz, used for CPU and radio frequencies.

Understanding Frequency in depth

What frequency measures

Frequency is how many times something repeats per second, measured in hertz (Hz) — one cycle per second. It describes sound pitch, radio waves, screen refresh rates and processor clock speeds. This converter moves a value across hertz and its multiples, plus revolutions per minute.

How the conversion works

Each unit is a multiple of the hertz: 1 kilohertz (kHz) = 1000 Hz, 1 megahertz (MHz) = 1,000,000 Hz, and 1 gigahertz (GHz) = 1,000,000,000 Hz. The tool converts your value to hertz and out to the target unit. RPM (revolutions per minute) relates by a factor of 60, since one cycle per second is sixty per minute — so 1 Hz = 60 RPM.

Where each unit appears

Hz and kHz describe audio (human hearing spans roughly 20 Hz to 20 kHz). MHz and GHz describe radio, Wi-Fi and CPU clock speeds — a 3 GHz processor cycles three billion times a second. RPM describes spinning machinery, engines and hard drives. The same underlying quantity, very different scales.

Frequency and period

Frequency and period are reciprocals: period is the time for one cycle, frequency is cycles per second, so frequency = 1 / period. A 50 Hz mains supply has a period of 1/50 = 0.02 seconds. Understanding this relationship helps when reading signals, tuning audio, or working with oscillators.

Everyday uses

Convert audio and radio frequencies, relate engine or disk RPM to hertz, compare CPU and bus speeds, and handle signal-processing maths. Everything is instant and client-side.
