Power is the rate at which energy is used or produced — energy divided by time. Where energy is measured in joules, power is measured in watts (one joule per second). It tells you how quickly work is done: a 2000-watt kettle uses energy twice as fast as a 1000-watt one. This converter moves a value across all the common power units.
Every unit is defined relative to the watt, so the tool converts your value to watts and then to the target unit. The key ratios are: 1 kilowatt = 1000 W, 1 megawatt = 1,000,000 W, 1 mechanical horsepower ≈ 745.7 W, 1 metric horsepower (PS) ≈ 735.5 W, and 1 BTU per hour ≈ 0.293 W.
Power ratings appear on almost every appliance. Electrical devices are rated in watts and kilowatts; air conditioners and boilers are often rated in BTU per hour, which converts to about 0.293 W each. Converting between kW and BTU/h is essential when sizing heating or cooling for a room.
